1. Who is this course for?

 

This course is ideal for everyone including teachers, coaches, childcare providers, workplace staff, church teams, community members, and babysitters. Whether you're required to have certification or simply want to learn life-saving skills, this class is for you—no medical background needed!

2. What does the course cover?

 

The course teaches how to perform CPR on adults, children, and infants; use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED); help a choking victim; and respond to first aid situations such as bleeding, burns, allergic reactions, and medical emergencies like seizures or diabetic crises.

3. Is this the same as BLS (Basic Life Support)?

 

No, Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED is not the same as BLS (Basic Life Support). Heartsaver courses are designed for individuals with little or no medical training—such as teachers, coaches, and the general public—who need certification for work or personal knowledge. BLS, on the other hand, is intended for healthcare professionals like nurses, EMTs, and hospital personnel. If you're unsure which course is right for you, we’re happy to help you choose!

4. How long is the course?

 

The class typically takes 2 to 4 hours, depending on the size of the group and the pace of instruction. 

5. Will I receive a certification?

 

Yes! You’ll receive an official American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED certification eCard that’s valid for 2 years—emailed to you the SAME DAY you complete the course.​

6. Do I need to renew my certification?

 

Yes. The Heartsaver certifications expire after two years, and a renewal course must be completed to stay certified.​

7. Is this course OSHA-compliant?

Yes, it meets OSHA requirements and is widely accepted by employers, schools, and volunteer organizations.

8. What should I bring to class?


Bring a valid photo ID, notebook/pen, and wear comfortable clothing for physical practice. Course materials will be provided or available beforehand.

9. Do I need to take a test to pass?

No, written exam is required to pass the Heartsaver course. However, the American Heart Association (AHA) does offer an optional exam for students whose employers or regulatory agencies require it. During the course, you'll demonstrate your skills through hands-on practice, with the full support and guidance of our certified instructors every step of the way.

10. Can children or teens take this course?

Yes! The course is appropriate for mature youth (typically ages 12 and up) who are capable of understanding the material and performing the skills. It’s a great option for babysitters, lifeguards-in-training, and responsible teens.

11. Can I cancel or reschedule, if needed?
